xRecovery Installation

I almost forgot that prior on using custom ROM, one must install first, xRecovery. As a W8 user, and knowingly that it's fully hardware identical to X8, there's a much more easier procedure that I followed here.

I said that it's much easier because you only need to install the APK file on that link. Unlike before that prior on copying the needed Xrecovery files, you first need to install Root Explorer followed by Terminal Emulator so you can move the said xRecovery files to /system/bin folder and then allowing permission via the said Terminal Emulator. Honestly, I failed installing xRecovery on this latter procedure. That's why I searched and searched and finally able to find what I can say is the much easier procedure. :)

But basically on the above procedure, I think one is lacking...

1) Phone must be rooted
2) Busybox from the market must be installed and activated by running the program and choosing what version of Busybox you want to install. (for me I chose the 2nd version, 1.17.x something)

I think that's exactly what I did. And I successfully did it!

W8 GingerDX Custom ROM

After doing the "rooting" process of my W8 on this blog, and after almost 2-months since I acquired my device, finally, the next thing that I did is to use a custom ROM.

As the title says, I used a GingerDX custom ROM. GingerDX is an Android Gingerbread port by a forumer from XDA-Developers.com named doixanh aka DX. Knowing that W8 is fully hardware identical to X8 (sans the Walkman logo and the music player included in the stock ROM), X8's custom ROM worked flawlessly on W8.

I've been itching to do ROM upgrade as the rumors spread that the Sony-Ericsson Xperia's X10 Mini, X10 Mini Pro and X8 series will not be having any more ROM upgrade from the last Eclair update. So, there's no more Froyo much more,  Gingerbread flavor taste for my device. Nice job SE!!!

Well, at least there's a lot of Android ROM cooker out there specially at XDA-Developers.com. Kudos to the great guys out there!

App2SD or Link2SD

App2SD 1, App2SD 2, and still more App2SD's here... But definitely, Link2SD for me!

Now. what's yours?

W8 (Sony Ericsson) Rooting

My W8 unit turned 1-month exactly today. Right after I bought it, my mind was wondering if the X8 rooting procedure will work for this “exact same” model. Why am I thinking that? The wifey had already a X10 Mini Pro unit for a couple of months now. Being much more techy than she was, I'm the one who used to install some applications, tools or games on her device to tinker whether it'll stay installed or not worthy to be installed on a “limited” storage space of the said X10.

Sadly, I can't experiment trying to root her X10 device (so we can use Link2SD app) as her unit came from Smart Telco, thus has a 2-year lock-in period.

Anyway, I really wanted to root my W8 so I can enjoy installing more and more apps. And finally, after doing tons and tons of searching, I was able to root my device. Without further ado, here's the procedure I followed. This worked for me so hopefully it'll work for you too.

[TUTORIAL] Rooting 2.1 Directly

Im going to show you how to root Xperia X8 2.1 directly!

1. Download modified "SuperOneClick".

2. Enable "USB Debug".
3. Connect phone to "PC" and select "Charge Phone".
4. Open "SuperOneClick" and select "Root".
5. Wait!
6. When it is done, reboot.

Now you have rooted Xperia X8 2.1 without flashing.
That tutorial came from here. So let's give thanks to velnens123 who made that guide. And most specially to the following persons;
CLShortFuse - for making "SuperOneClick".
sonty - for making exploit script.
Kudos to all of them!!!

By the way, aside from the link of the SuperOneClick program above, here's also the link from my SkyDrive account.

Happy rooting!
